LIMEYS ONE WIN FROM TITLE

DOUBLE HEADER MISERY FOR THE MIGHTY FLEETWOOD

DOUBLE HEADER JOY FOR BISHOPS

Division 1 News

So far behind in games, the mighty Fleetwood needed a catch up night with a couple of tricky fixtures at the end of the evening at the only time they could be played due to my late arrival from White Hart Lane.  Keeping our main man fresh for the second of our games against the champion limeys,  I could only watch in disbelief at the first game against Frontiers. Ross gave us the lead with a stunning strike but from then on it was downhill for my boys as the April Fool of a match official seemed to baffle everyone tonight.  Accusations of bias towards the limeys and Fleetwood were surely laid to rest tonight as our other bespectacled ref, and illustrious chairman, had one of those days.  Again.  Peculiar overhead decisions, stopping play when teams had the advantage and not when they didn't. Still, the referee doesn't lose the game for you does he?  Well i would have said that until he played a one-two off a prone player on whom he hadn't spotted an offence, dribbled round Leon and Ross and with enough time to turn round and point his finger in every other Fleetwood player's face shouting  "Shuttttittttt!" he curled a worldy into the top corner past the Finmeister for the decisive goal for Frontiers.  It was not a dirty game at all and was same old same old really I guess, you know, Leon accused of using his elbows too much and getting retaliatory kicks which aren't seen, Goughy scoring a hat trick and a Fleetwood player getting binned.  No excuse for dissent although from my vantage point I heard no swearing at him.  Not a stat of which we should be proud but as Malc received his marching orders, that was our third sin bin in just over a month.  No dirty tackling at all in that time of course but all brought about by our players reacting to either being tackled themselves or by dissent against an official or an opposing player.  None of the three players binned recently have been sent off or binned before but having more bins than any other team may lead to my writing a nasty letter to myself about team discipline.  I just hope I don't kick my team out. Our fortune was summed up at the end when Dan "Goose" Baird mis-hit a shot completely only for the ball to ricochet off Mark Lester and up and over the Finmeister's head for 5-3. And I stress OVER.  Say no more.  Ross did at least complete a hat trick to match Goughy and Carl Powell, the only player who I could see going out of his way to kick an opponent, got their other goal with a neat volleyed finish.  Big up to Frontiers whose upturn in form has coincided with our collapse.  They may be in cloud cuckooland when it comes to referee bias against them but they can play if they want to.  (MoM_Ross Townley)

Saving myself for the champs in the second game may have been a mistake in hindsight.  I should have been held back for the 3rd or 4th.  Having just taken on the 6 players of Frontiers, not even Jack Bauer could have helped us against the limeys.  With his usual callous way of debilitating an opposing keeper by smashing the ball so far into his knackers that the ball almost crossed the line, Ashley Conlan did actually open the scoring by firing into the bottom corner.  He then rudely intercepted a Leon pass to put Jimmy Ellice through for 2-0. This was when I was sitting back wondering whether to go up to support or wait for a breakaway, as I always have the beating of Ellice in a straight race, and decided to push forward leaving a gap as wide as a Mauler penalty kick for Jimmy to sprint into.  Even had I used my free bus pass to get back it wouldn't have worked I'm afraid.  When the Finmesiter did save a Conlan effort, Jimmy smashed in the rebound. In the second half some great blocking by referee John Woodham in the middle of the pitch prevented Leon from closing down Mr Conlan for his second goal which he calmly finished for his 45th of the season.  When I woke drowsily from my coma I'm sure I dreamt Mauler scoring a couple of good strikes when everyone was shouting "let him shoot" but no it can't have been.  Ross got a consolation goal at 4 or 5 nil but all in all a disastrous evening for the mighty blues.  John capped a fine refereeing performance by awarding a joint MoM to Jimmy and Ross.  Over-ruled.  (MoM_Paul Mayhew)

The Spanish w@nkes kept up the pressure in the chase for 2nd spot but with the pinksters' games in hand it's looking unlikely. I didn't see this game but it was clearly a good game for starman Craig Charles as he scored 6 goals to close the golden boot gap at the top. Also Sean Nolan bagged a hat trick against relegated Four Friends and Brad who must now be looking forward to playing in Division 2.  I hope they don't start their season like Fashion Flooring Centre when they got relegated.  Tubs and Omar got 2 goals for FFAB but it was scant consolation.  (MoM_Craig Charles)

The Irons leap frogged the mighty Fleetwood in the table tonight as they defeated Green Machines by the odd goal in five.  The first goal could have been a bit earlier had The Hammer not had his penalty saved by Machines' stopper Mickey Castle but he soon made up for it by placing the ball in the corner of his net later.  He got a second goal too and Smokin' Joe Hiscoe and Steven Castle scored for the Greenies.  Chris Dorian got the final Irons goal to take them back into the top half of the table.  For his efforts in goal, including at least one dive if my memory serves me right, stopper Mickey got the man of the match. Division 2 News

Just three games tonight but 2/3 of them involved Blue Bishops who are definitely in a catch-up mode.  First up, they had to take on Fashion Flooring Centre who, after their long unbeaten run came to an end in their last game, needed to pick themselves up for the run-in.  Luke Berry is always accused of being in a one-man team but I don't think Jamie Cleary should take all the credit personally.  He even allowed Luke to score four of their goals tonight to share the limelight for once since he only managed one himself.  Despite this 5-0 score-line, Fashion Flooring worked Bishops' stopper Jon Hutley very hard and they can feel aggrieved at the size of the defeat.  (MoM_Jonathan Hutley)

In the 2nd game, Luke managed to net 3 times, only once with his left foot, versus Oddballs in another 5-goal salvo. Nat Berry also scored a screamer and Dave Shute, in a well-practised bit of trickery managed to wrong foot himself, the defenders and the goalkeeper to score  what could be described as a "goal"? He was nearly sin-binned for time wasting to be honest.  Ryan and Jeff scored for Oddballs. Not sure of the final goal-scorer?  Two games, two wins and up to 4th.  Could the Bishops still go up if someone drops out? Possibly. (MoM_Luke Berry)

Finally Elite took on Harvey's All Stars, another game to start and finish before my arrival.  Elite's form has dropped of late, not helped by the injury to top scorer Timmy Sosanya who was taken out by his own Elite goalkeeper Tom Newell in an 11-a-side game.  You couldn't make it up.  I know I normally do but this time not.  They actually took a 2-0 lead through Sam and Timmy's brother Kunmi but as usual the Allstars didn't give up and fought back to win the game 3-2 with O'Donnell brothers themselves on the score-sheet, Nathan(2) and Adam (1).
